Roullete, also known as Roulette, is a classic casino game that offers players a variety of betting options and fun. It is easy enough for beginners to learn, but it has a surprising level of depth for more experienced betters. Whether you are new to the game, or an old pro, this article will help you get the most out of your time at the table.
The roulette wheel is made of two basic parts: a static bowl and a wheelhead that spins inside it. The bowl has a number grid, while the wheelhead contains slots for red and black numbers as well as one or two zeros, depending on the style of the game being played.
Once you’ve positioned your chips, the dealer (also known as the croupier) will throw a ball into the spinning wheel and watch it bounce around until it finally settles in a pocket marked with a number. If you placed a bet on that number, you’ve won!
Before you play, you must purchase a roulette chip from the croupier. These are different from standard casino chips and come in various denominations. The croupier will ask you what denomination you want to assign to each chip, and then mark them accordingly. You will use these chips to place your bets during the course of the game.
Inside Bets
The inside of the roulette table is divided into an area with 36 numbered squares that are either red or black, and an outside section with boxes that cover broader ranges such as odd or even. In an inside bet, you wager that the winning number will be in the middle of these areas. If you win an inside bet, you’ll receive a payout of 17-1.
Outside Bets
The outside of the roulette table is a little more complicated than the inside. You can make a high or low bet, called passe et manque in French, by placing your chip(s) on the edge of the table and wagering that the ball will land on either the first 18 numbers (1-18), the second dozen (18-36), or the third dozen (19-36). You’ll lose if a 0 or 00 appears, as these are the only numbers without a payout. With an outside bet, the payout is 1-1.
